Daniel Matt is a scholar and a teacher of Kabbalah, a philosophy of mystical teachings which Daniel will explain today. Daniel also did a massive translation of The Zohar, which is the main book of Kabbalah. And he’s going to share some gems from it.
I encountered Daniel through his book, The Essential Kabbalah: The Heart of Jewish Mysticism, which I loved. It’s so beautiful. And I had so much fun talking to him about the revelations that he’s come across in his work. Some are quite radical and striking, some are potentially dangerous, and many are again just so beautiful.
We talk about the idea of God being equally male and female. We talk about the cult of Mary; the relationship between the ethical and the mystical; and some of the positives and negatives of Pop Kabbalah.
We talk about the things we can’t truly discover, or understand, or even catch a glimpse of—unless we’re willing to stumble a bit. And what can happen when we do.
At the very end of our conversation, Daniel explains how you can study with him, which I really want to do! So stick around if you’re interested in learning more about that. And I’ll also include the link to his site and courses in the show notes.
