Meggan Watterson is a Harvard-trained feminist theologian. I love her. In our conversation today, I share more about how I found one of Meggan’s earlier books and how her perspective completely shifted my thinking, and helped me to find faith. Fun fact: Meggan and I started a little book club, just me and her, during COVID—I’ll have to link our reading in the show notes. And now I’m very, very excited that Meggan has a new book out called The Girl Who Baptized Herself. It’s excellent.
Today, we talk about the importance of being embodied, as well as a few pretty crazy examples of the way that culture is edited and passed down to us.
Meggan tells the little-known story behind the Gospel of Mary—the only gospel in the name of a woman. And what really happened to Mary Magdalene. We of course talk about where my work meets her work, with the birth of the seven powers, which become the seven cardinal vices, and later the seven deadly sins.
And Meggan shares the incredible story behind the acts of Paul and Thecla. Which is so beautiful.
